HOLLYHOCKS TELL OF HERMIT’S OLD LOVE

WINSTED, Conn., Sept. 28 — William Woodruff, aged seventy-five, a hermit who has lived since the civil war in Colebrook, following his annual custom in presenting the people who drive past his hut on Woodruff Hill, hollyhock, the favorite flower of the sweetheart who jilted him in the sixties. Since becoming a recluse Woodruff has raised only hollyhocks, which now cover the ground around his hovel.
