PITY’S TEAR.

WHEN Sorrow hangs the drooping head;
And Pain and Woe are near;
When all the hope and joy is fled,
How Sweet it Pity’s tear!

When friends desert, and foes assail,
When pride and scorn appear,
And innocence can nought avail,
How Sweet is Pity’s tear!

Oh, then, Sweet Pity, loveliest maid,
My wandering spirit cheer;
And when by foes or friends betray’d,
Oh Sooth me with a tear!
